Everyone Calls Gracie Abrams a “Nepo Baby” — But Wait Until You Meet Country’s Rising Star Stella Lefty

Let’s be honest: nobody in the music world just “appears” out of thin air. But some artists sure seem to skip a few steps that everyone else has to climb.

Take Gracie Abrams. One minute, nobody outside die-hard music fans had heard her name. The next, she was standing on the same stage as music legends at the 2025 FireAid benefit concert.

Think about that lineup for a second. Billie Eilish opened the show. Earth, Wind & Fire performed. Then Gracie Abrams walked out — sharing a bill with icons like Alanis Morissette, Green Day, John Mayer, Stevie Wonder, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Lady Gaga, No Doubt, and the surviving members of Nirvana.

These are artists with decades of history, hundreds of millions of records sold, and countless awards on their shelves. And right in the middle of them? A relatively new name in pop music.

So Who Exactly Is Gracie Abrams?

To be clear, Gracie isn’t untalented. Her music is catchy enough, and clearly millions of fans agree — she’s sold out arenas, landed Grammy nominations, and even opened for Taylor Swift on tour. She can write songs and she can sing.

But there’s a reason her name always comes with an asterisk in the entertainment world: her father.

Gracie is the daughter of J.J. Abrams, the legendary Hollywood director and producer behind hits like Lost, Alias, Star Trek, Mission: Impossible III, Super 8, and two Star Wars films. J.J. Abrams’ net worth sits at roughly $300 million.

Her mother, Katie McGrath, isn’t just along for the ride either — she’s the co-CEO of Bad Robot, the family’s own powerhouse production company.

Put those two together, and it’s easy to see why Gracie has become the internet’s favorite example of a “nepo baby” — a celebrity kid who got a head start thanks to famous, connected, and wealthy parents.

To her credit, Gracie hasn’t tried to hide it. She’s openly admitted she grew up with financial security most young musicians never get. She never had to choose between chasing a music career and paying her bills. Her parents already knew how Hollywood worked, who to call, and how to get a foot in the door.

That’s a serious head start. But here’s the twist — compared to what’s coming next, Gracie’s story barely counts as a nepo baby tale at all.

Enter Stella Lefty, Country-Pop’s New Breakout Star

If a $300 million dad is enough to make Gracie Abrams the poster child for nepotism in music, what do we call Stella Lefty?

Because for Stella’s father, $300 million isn’t a life-changing fortune. It’s roughly what his net worth swings up or down in a single day just from normal stock market activity.

Meet the Woman Behind the Stage Name

Stella Lefty is the performing name of Stella Lefkofsky, a singer-songwriter from the Chicago suburbs who has quickly become one of the buzziest new names in country-pop.

She started writing songs as a kid, long before anyone outside her family knew her name. While earning a public health degree at Tulane University, she began sharing her music online — and things got serious during a study-abroad stint in Amsterdam, where she leaned harder into songwriting.

After college, she did what so many hopeful musicians do: she packed up and moved to Nashville to chase a record deal. It didn’t work out. A songwriting deal she was counting on fell through completely.

For most people, that’s usually where the dream ends. Pack it in, move home, find a steady job — and tell friends about that one time you almost made it big in Nashville.

Stella’s story took a different turn.

    The Big Break

Out of nowhere, she got a message from Jacob Hindlin, known in the industry as J Kash — a hit-making producer and songwriter who’s worked with Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Kesha, and Maroon 5.

That connection led to a deal with Disruptor Records, and Stella packed up again — this time for Los Angeles. She kept writing, recording, and posting music, slowly building a fan base online.

Then, in February 2026, she dropped a song called “Boston.”

That single track didn’t just do well — it climbed all the way to #6 on the Billboard Hot 100. As of this writing, “Boston” has racked up more than 120 million streams on Spotify and has soundtracked over 1.6 million TikTok videos. Stella’s own TikTok following has shot past 670,000, boosted by radio play, festival slots, and opening gigs for artists like Jessie Murph and Cameron Whitcomb. She’s even taken the stage at Stagecoach, one of country music’s biggest festivals.

A Little Controversy Along the Way

Here’s an interesting wrinkle: if “Boston” sounded familiar to you, you’re not imagining things. Plenty of listeners noticed it shares a resemblance to Noah Kahan’s song “Stick Season.”

Stella has said the similarity wasn’t intentional — she wrote the chorus, posted it, and soon started seeing comments pointing out the connection. Kahan’s team eventually reached out, the two sides talked it through, and Stella agreed to give him a songwriting credit — similar to how Olivia Rodrigo credited Hayley Williams after a similar situation.

Who Is Stella Lefty’s Billionaire Father?

Stella was born on August 13, 2002, in Winnetka, Illinois, and grew up in the wealthy North Shore suburb of Glencoe.

Her father is Eric Lefkofsky — a billionaire tech entrepreneur. Her mother, Elizabeth “Liz” Lefkofsky, is a philanthropist who runs the Lefkofsky Family Foundation alongside her husband. Stella also has two brothers.

Long before Stella ever picked up a guitar, her dad had already built — and sold — several companies.

From a Failed Clothing Business to a Billion-Dollar Empire

After finishing law school at the University of Michigan in 1993, Eric and his business partner Brad Keywell borrowed money from family to buy a small Wisconsin clothing company. It grew fast at first, but debt eventually sank it.

His next attempt went much better.

In 1999, the duo launched Starbelly, a company selling promotional items like branded mugs and T-shirts online. Within a year, it was sold for around $240 million. The buyer, unfortunately, later went bankrupt — but Eric had already cashed out.

He didn’t slow down. In 2001, he co-founded InnerWorkings, a print procurement company that went public in 2006. In 2005, he started Echo Global Logistics, which went public in 2009 and was later sold for $1.3 billion in 2021.

    The Groupon Story

In 2007, Eric met a developer named Andrew Mason, who pitched an unusual idea: a website called “The Point,” where people could commit to group actions — but only if enough others joined in too.

The idea struggled at first. It was a nice concept, but hard to turn into money.

Then they found the one thing people were always excited to rally around: saving money.

That pivot became Groupon — a site offering deep discounts on local deals, but only once enough people signed up. It exploded in popularity, growing from a Chicago startup into a global company almost overnight, at one point earning the title of the fastest-growing company in business history.

In 2010, Google offered roughly $6 billion to buy Groupon. The company said no — a decision still remembered as one of the most talked-about missed deals in tech history.

Cashing Out Big — Before the Fall

Before going public, Groupon raised close to $950 million from private investors. Normally, that money stays inside a company to fund growth. Instead, roughly $810 million of it was used to buy out shares from founders, employees, and early investors.

Eric and his family walked away with $398 million from that single transaction — before the company even had its public debut.

Groupon officially went public in November 2011, and its value briefly soared to a $13 billion market cap, making that Google rejection look genius — at least for a moment. At that peak, Eric’s remaining shares were worth more than $3 billion.

But the good times didn’t last. Groupon’s popularity faded, business partners complained the deals weren’t profitable, and the company ran into accounting troubles. Today, Groupon’s entire market cap sits around just $1 billion.

Eric moved on, co-founding the investment firm Lightbank, which has generated over $1 billion in returns by backing companies like Sprout Social and Udemy.

The Personal Story Behind His Biggest Company Yet

In 2015, Stella’s mother, Liz, was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Watching his wife go through treatment, Eric became frustrated. So much medical research existed — genetic data, clinical studies, patient histories — yet doctors often couldn’t easily access or use it when making treatment decisions.

That frustration became the spark for his next company: Tempus AI.

Tempus gathers and analyzes genetic and clinical data, helping doctors see how similar patients responded to different treatments in the past — so they can make smarter, more personalized choices for the patient in front of them. It started with cancer care and has since expanded into other areas of medicine.

Eric personally put at least $100 million into the company early on. Tempus AI went public on the Nasdaq in June 2024, with Eric staying on as CEO and its largest shareholder.

Today, he owns about 24% of Tempus AI. With the company valued at roughly $7.7 billion, that single stake is worth around $1.85 billion — and that’s on top of everything else he’s earned over the years.

Adding It All Up: Just How Rich Is Stella’s Dad?

Between the Groupon payout, Echo Global Logistics ($1.3 billion sale), his stake in ad-tech company Mediaocean (valued over $5 billion in 2021), his Lightbank investment returns, and his Tempus AI shares, Eric Lefkofsky’s net worth currently stands at around $5 billion.

To put that in perspective: Eric could buy J.J. Abrams’ entire $300 million fortune — 17 times over. What’s a life-changing sum for most people is roughly what Eric’s net worth moves by in a single day of stock trading.

    The Bottom Line

Gracie Abrams may be music’s most talked-about nepo baby right now, but Stella Lefty’s family fortune puts things in a whole new light. Both artists clearly have real talent — but only one of them grew up with a literal billionaire footing the bill.

Either way, “Boston” is climbing the charts, TikTok can’t stop playing it, and Stella Lefty’s star is only rising from here.
