Early Life and Education

Erçel later attended Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University in Istanbul, where she studied traditional Turkish arts. Before establishing herself as an actress, she also pursued modeling and participated in beauty competitions. In 2012, she represented Turkey in the Miss Civilization of the World competition in Azerbaijan and finished second.
Early Television Career
Erçel began appearing on Turkish television in the early 2010s, with early roles in productions including “Çalıkuşu,” also known internationally as “The Wren,” “Çılgın Dersane Üniversitede” and “Hayat Ağacı.” Her breakthrough came in 2015 when she was cast as Selin Yılmaz in the Kanal D series “Güneşin Kızları.” The drama ran through 2016 and significantly raised Erçel’s profile in Turkey. Her work during this period earned her recognition as a rising television star, including a Golden Butterfly Award for Rising Star.
Her next series dramatically expanded her audience. From 2016 to 2017, Erçel starred opposite Burak Deniz in the Show TV romantic comedy “Aşk Laftan Anlamaz.” She played Hayat Uzun, a young woman who becomes romantically involved with businessman Murat Sarsılmaz after taking a job under a false identity. Although the series had a relatively short original run, international distribution gave it an enormous second life. “Aşk Laftan Anlamaz” became particularly popular in the Middle East, India, Pakistan and other international markets. Erçel won the Golden Butterfly Award for Best Actress in a Comedy for her performance.
“Sen Çal Kapımı”
After “Aşk Laftan Anlamaz,” Erçel starred in “Siyah İnci” from 2017 to 2018. In 2019, she appeared as Müjde Akay in the crime drama “Halka” and played the title character in “Azize.” Her biggest international television success arrived in 2020 with the romantic comedy “Sen Çal Kapımı,” distributed internationally as “Love Is in the Air” and “You Knock on My Door.” Erçel starred as Eda Yıldız, an aspiring landscape architect and florist whose future becomes entangled with wealthy architect Serkan Bolat, played by Kerem Bürsin.
The series ran for two seasons through 2021. Erçel and Bürsin’s chemistry became one of the show’s major attractions, and the pair won the Golden Butterfly Award for Best Couple. “Sen Çal Kapımı” became a major international export for Turkish television, developing large audiences in countries including Spain and Italy and throughout Latin America, the Middle East and Eastern Europe, helping transform Erçel from a popular Turkish actress into an internationally recognized television star.
“Bambaşka Biri”
Erçel reunited with Burak Deniz in 2023 for the Fox drama “Bambaşka Biri,” several years after their success together on “Aşk Laftan Anlamaz.” The series moved away from straightforward romantic comedy by combining romance, crime and psychological drama. Erçel played Leyla Gediz, a public prosecutor investigating the murder of a businessman. Her investigation brings her into contact with television journalist Kenan Öztürk, played by Deniz, who becomes both a romantic interest and a central figure in the increasingly complicated case. “Bambaşka Biri” aired into early 2024. Erçel and Deniz received a Golden Butterfly nomination for Best Couple, while Erçel was also nominated for Best Actress.
Film Career
Erçel made a significant move into feature films with the historical drama “Intoxicated by Love.” The Turkish-Iranian production centers on the relationship between 13th-century poet and mystic Rumi and Shams Tabrizi. Erçel played Kimia Khatoon alongside Parsa Pirouzfar and Shahab Hosseini. After a lengthy path to release, “Intoxicated by Love” opened in Iran in 2024 and became a major box-office success.
In 2025, she starred opposite Barış Arduç in the Netflix romantic film “Chasing the Wind,” known in Turkish as “Rüzgara Bırak.” Erçel played Aslı Mansoy, an ambitious businesswoman who travels to the coastal town of Çeşme and clashes with Ege Yazıcı, a laid-back surfer played by Arduç. The two are heirs connected to the same company and initially find themselves on opposing sides of a business dispute.
“Aşkı Hatırla” and “İki Dünya Bir Dilek”
Erçel and Barış Arduç reunited later in 2025 for the Disney+ romantic drama “Aşkı Hatırla.” Erçel played Güneş, a successful editor who unexpectedly reconnects with Deniz, an architect and former romantic partner, after circumstances bring them together on a trip to Cappadocia. The project continued Erçel’s move toward streaming productions designed for distribution beyond Turkey. “Aşkı Hatırla” consisted of eight episodes and paired Erçel and Arduç for the second time in the same year.
Erçel then starred in the Prime Video film “İki Dünya Bir Dilek,” or “Two Worlds, One Wish,” opposite Metin Akdülger. She played Bilge, a lawyer who reconnects with Can, an archaeologist she first met as a child in a hospital. Years later, the two discover that they share an extraordinary connection that allows them to hear one another’s voices telepathically. Erçel also received a writing credit on “İki Dünya Bir Dilek,” co-writing the film with Elçin Muslu. The movie premiered on Prime Video in November 2025, marking one of Erçel’s first significant credits behind the camera as well as in front of it.
“Aşk ve Gözyaşı”
In 2025, Erçel reunited with Barış Arduç for a third project, the ATV drama “Aşk ve Gözyaşı.” The series was adapted from the enormously successful South Korean drama “Queen of Tears.” Erçel played Meyra Aksel, an heiress whose troubled marriage to Selim Keskin, played by Arduç, is approaching divorce. Their relationship changes after Meyra receives a serious medical diagnosis, forcing the estranged couple to confront unresolved feelings and conflicts within their families. “Aşk ve Gözyaşı” premiered in September 2025 and concluded in November after seven episodes. Although its run was brief, the series marked Erçel’s return to traditional Turkish broadcast television after several consecutive streaming and film projects.
Endorsements and International Profile
Erçel has developed an extensive commercial career alongside her acting work, appearing in campaigns spanning fashion, beauty, jewelry, food and personal-care products. One of her longest-running partnerships has been with Turkish fashion company Nocturne, for which she has served as a prominent campaign face across numerous seasons. The collaboration eventually expanded into dedicated Hande Erçel x Nocturne collections. In 2024, the partnership received the Fashion Collaboration of the Year honor at the ELLE Style Awards, and Nocturne continued producing collections and campaigns with Erçel through 2026.
Erçel has also represented Emotion deodorants and served as an ambassador for Magnum Ice Creams. Her work with Magnum included appearances at the Cannes Film Festival, helping strengthen her profile within the international fashion and entertainment worlds. In 2025, she became an official Pomellato brand ambassador, continuing to represent the company at high-profile events and wearing Pomellato High Jewelry on the Cannes red carpet in 2026.
Erçel’s rise has coincided with the increasingly global popularity of Turkish television dramas. International distribution of “Aşk Laftan Anlamaz” and “Sen Çal Kapımı” brought her to audiences that may never have encountered the original Turkish broadcasts, while social media further expanded her visibility. In 2024, the American Turkish Society honored Erçel for her contribution to Turkish television.
