Missy Elliott net worth is $50 million in 2026, according to Celebrity Net Worth. She is one of the most influential and commercially successful female rappers in music history, having sold more than 30 million records in the United States. Her wealth comes from record sales, songwriting and production royalties, touring, endorsements and real estate.

    Quick Facts

    Full name Melissa Arnette Elliott
Born July 1, 1971, Portsmouth, Virginia
Net worth (2026) $50 million (Celebrity Net Worth estimate)
Records sold (US) more than 30 million
Studio albums six, all platinum-certified or better
Grammy Awards 4 wins from 22 nominations
Historic firsts first female rapper in the Songwriters Hall of Fame (2019); first female hip-hop artist in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame (2023)

    Early Life

Melissa Arnette Elliott was born on July 1, 1971, in Portsmouth, Virginia. She is the only child of Patricia Elliott, a power-company dispatcher, and Ronnie Elliott, a former U.S. Marine. Her family was active in church, and Missy began singing in the church choir at an early age. While her father was serving in the Marines, the family lived in Jacksonville, North Carolina, before returning to Virginia. Elliott experienced a difficult childhood marked by domestic abuse, and when she was 14, she and her mother left her father and moved to the Hodges Ferry neighborhood of Portsmouth. Music became an important outlet. She graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1990.

    Early Music Career and Sista

In 1991, Elliott formed the all-female R&B group Fayze with friends. The group began working with her childhood friend Timbaland. Their demos attracted Jodeci producer DeVante Swing, who invited the group to New York. They signed with Elektra Records through his Swing Mob imprint and changed their name to Sista. During this period Elliott contributed songwriting and vocals to projects involving Jodeci and Raven-Symoné. Sista recorded an album, “4 All the Sistas Around da World,” but it was shelved after Swing Mob broke up in 1995. Elliott and Timbaland then established themselves as an independent songwriting and production team. Their breakthrough came through work on Aaliyah’s 1996 album “One in a Million,” particularly “If Your Girl Only Knew” and the title track.

Solo Breakthrough and Supa Dupa Fly

In 1996, she signed with East West Records, a division of Elektra, including the creation of her own label imprint, The Goldmind Inc. Her debut studio album, “Supa Dupa Fly,” was released in July 1997 and produced primarily by Timbaland. It debuted at #3 on the Billboard 200, setting a record at the time for the highest debut by a female rapper. It earned platinum certification and produced “The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly),” “Sock It 2 Me,” “Beep Me 911” and “Hit Em wit da Hee.” The video for “The Rain,” directed by Hype Williams, became hugely influential, with Elliott’s oversized black inflatable suit helping establish her as one of hip-hop’s most imaginative visual performers. “Supa Dupa Fly” earned a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Album, while Elliott kept writing and producing for other artists, including Whitney Houston, contributing to Houston’s 1998 album “My Love Is Your Love.”

    Commercial Success and Hit Albums

Elliott followed her debut with “Da Real World” in 1999, featuring Aaliyah, Eminem and Beyoncé, producing “Hot Boyz,” “She’s a Bitch” and “All n My Grill.” It sold approximately three million copies worldwide. Her third album, “Miss E… So Addictive,” arrived in 2001 with “Get Ur Freak On,” “One Minute Man” and “4 My People.” “Get Ur Freak On” became one of her signature recordings and won the Grammy for Best Rap Solo Performance in 2002. That same year she co-produced the remake of “Lady Marmalade,” featuring Christina Aguilera, Lil’ Kim, Mýa and Pink. It reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Her fourth album, “Under Construction,” released in November 2002, became the bestselling album of her career, featuring “Work It” and “Gossip Folks.” “Work It” spent ten weeks at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100, and the album was certified double platinum. She followed with “This Is Not a Test!” in 2003, featuring “Pass That Dutch,” and her sixth album, “The Cookbook,” in July 2005, including the Grammy-winning “Lose Control,” featuring Ciara and Fatman Scoop. All six of her studio albums earned platinum certification or better.

Songwriting, Production Royalties and Business Ventures

A major component of Elliott’s fortune comes from songwriting and production, which have provided income beyond her own recordings and concerts. Working frequently with Timbaland, she helped create influential R&B recordings for Aaliyah, SWV, 702, Total and others. Her credits include 702’s “Where My Girls At?,” Tweet’s “Oops (Oh My),” Keyshia Cole’s “Let It Go” and Monica’s “Everything to Me.” She also worked with Beyoncé, Janet Jackson, Jennifer Hudson, Jazmine Sullivan, Fantasia and numerous other major artists. Many of these recordings keep generating publishing and performance royalties through radio, streaming and licensing. Her business interests include The Goldmind Inc., the label she established early in her solo career. Her extensive songwriting catalog remains an important financial asset because of the continued popularity of her recordings and the music she created for other performers.

$42.5 Million Out of This World Tour

Although Elliott had spent decades performing at festivals and major events, she did not launch her first headlining concert tour until 2024. The “Out of This World – The Missy Elliott Experience” tour featured Elliott alongside Busta Rhymes, Ciara and Timbaland, with elaborate choreography, futuristic costumes and visual effects inspired by her famous videos. The North American tour began in Vancouver on July 4, 2024, and ran through late August. According to Pollstar Boxoffice, it generated approximately $42.5 million in gross ticket revenue across 29 shows, with attendance of more than 300,000 tickets. Its August 8, 2024, performance at Washington, D.C.’s Capital One Arena grossed more than $2 million, while two Los Angeles performances generated more than $3.1 million combined. The tour earned Hip-Hop Tour of the Year at the 2025 Pollstar Awards.

    Endorsements and Fashion Partnerships

One of her most notable partnerships began in 2004, when she collaborated with Adidas on the “Respect M.E.” collection of sneakers, clothing and accessories, developed with stylist June Ambrose. A portion of proceeds supported Break the Cycle, a nonprofit addressing domestic violence. Her advertising work has included campaigns for Doritos. In 2023, she appeared alongside Jack Harlow and Elton John in the brand’s Super Bowl commercial. In 2025, she renewed her relationship with Adidas, appearing in its global “Superstar, The Original” campaign alongside Samuel L. Jackson, Anthony Edwards and other entertainers and athletes.

    Later Career and Music

After “The Cookbook,” Elliott continued mainly as a producer and featured artist, collaborating with Demi Lovato, J. Cole, Kelly Rowland, Ariana Grande, Lizzo and Little Mix. In February 2015, she performed with Katy Perry during the Super Bowl XLIX halftime show. Later that year she released “WTF (Where They From),” featuring Pharrell Williams. In August 2019, she released “Iconology,” a five-track EP featuring “Throw It Back” and “Cool Off” — her first collection of new solo material since 2005. She performed at the 2025 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. In January 2026, she appeared on the remix of girl group GIRLSET’s single “Little Miss (Misdemeanor),” and performed at the 2026 Essence Festival of Culture, participating in a tribute to Aaliyah and receiving an Icon Award at the festival’s Black Women in Music celebration.

    Television and Film

Her early television appearances included “All That,” “Family Matters” and “The Wayans Bros.” In 2005, she hosted the reality competition “The Road to Stardom with Missy Elliott.” Her film appearances included “Honey” (2003), “Fade to Black” (2004) and “Just for Kicks” (2005). She contributed to the soundtrack of “Shark Tale” (2004), recording “Car Wash” with Christina Aguilera. In 2020, she executive-produced the Lifetime film “The Clark Sisters: First Ladies of Gospel,” alongside Queen Latifah and Mary J. Blige.

    Awards and Honors

Elliott has won four Grammy Awards from 22 nominations and multiple MTV Video Music Awards, including the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award in 2019. That same year she became the first female rapper inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, and received an honorary Doctor of Music degree from Berklee College of Music. In November 2021, she received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In 2022, her hometown of Portsmouth renamed a section of McLean Street “Missy Elliott Boulevard” in her honor. In 2023, she became the first female hip-hop artist inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, with Queen Latifah delivering her induction speech, and received the National Medal of Arts. In 2026, she received an Icon Award presented by Janet Jackson at the Dancers Against Cancer Gala of the Stars.

    Real Estate

In a 2015 interview with Billboard, Elliott revealed she owned six homes: two in Virginia, two in Miami, one in New Jersey and one in Atlanta. She also described an extensive luxury car collection, including Ferraris and Lamborghinis. One unusual property was a luxury condominium in Aventura, Florida, purchased in 2002. The roughly 4,500-square-foot residence became famous after appearing on MTV’s “Cribs,” showcasing elaborate custom furnishings, including a chair with built-in aquariums, a waterfall sculpture spelling out her name, decorative Lamborghini furniture and a custom bed designed to resemble a Ferrari sports car. One bathroom had even been converted into a sneaker closet. Elliott sold the condominium in February 2014 for $1.45 million.
