Early Life and Broadway
Lacey Nicole Chabert was born on September 30, 1982, in Mississippi and grew up in the small town of Purvis, where her parents, Tony and Julie Chabert, encouraged her interest in performing. She has Cajun, Italian, Irish and English ancestry.
Chabert first attracted national attention in 1991 as a semifinalist on the television talent competition “Star Search.” Her performances led to auditions in New York City, where she landed the role of young Cosette in the Broadway production of “Les Misérables,” performing from approximately 1992 to 1993. During this period, she also appeared in the television movie “A Little Piece of Heaven” and played Bianca Montgomery, the daughter of Erica Kane, on the ABC soap opera “All My Children.”
Party of Five and Child Stardom
Chabert’s breakthrough came in 1994 as Claudia Salinger on the Fox drama “Party of Five,” which followed five siblings attempting to raise one another after their parents were killed in a car accident. Chabert played the youngest daughter, a talented violinist navigating adolescence without her parents, alongside Matthew Fox, Scott Wolf, Neve Campbell and Jennifer Love Hewitt.
Although the program initially struggled in the ratings, it developed a devoted following and became one of the defining family dramas of the 1990s, winning the Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series – Drama in 1996. Chabert appeared throughout all six seasons until its conclusion in 2000, earning multiple Young Artist and YoungStar Award nominations, including a Young Artist Award victory in 1999.
The Wild Thornberrys and Voice Acting
While starring on “Party of Five,” Chabert developed a second successful career as a voice actress. In 1998, she began voicing Eliza Thornberry, the adventurous young girl who could communicate with animals, on Nickelodeon’s animated series “The Wild Thornberrys.” The show ran for five seasons and became one of Nickelodeon’s most popular animated properties. Chabert reprised her role in the feature films “The Wild Thornberrys Movie” (2002) and “Rugrats Go Wild” (2003).
She also provided the original voice of Meg Griffin during the first season of “Family Guy” in 1999, before Mila Kunis assumed the role, plus the singing voice of young Anastasia in the 1997 animated film “Anastasia” and young Vitani in “The Lion King II: Simba’s Pride.” Her later animated credits included “Bratz,” “The Spectacular Spider-Man,” “Young Justice,” “Transformers: Rescue Bots,” “Shimmer and Shine” and “Kung Fu Panda: The Paws of Destiny,” plus the video game “Sonic the Hedgehog,” in which she portrayed Princess Elise.
Mean Girls and Film Success
Chabert appeared in several notable films during the late 1990s and early 2000s, including “Lost in Space” (1998), “Not Another Teen Movie” (2001) and “Daddy Day Care” (2003). Her most recognizable film role came in 2004 as Gretchen Wieners in the comedy “Mean Girls,” written by Tina Fey, alongside Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams and Amanda Seyfried.
The film became a major commercial success and one of the most quoted teen comedies of its generation. Chabert’s character, a member of the popular clique known as the Plastics, became memorable for her awkward attempts to impress queen bee Regina George. The four principal actresses won the MTV Movie Award for Best On-Screen Team in 2005. Her other feature-film credits include “Dirty Deeds” (2005), “Black Christmas” (2006), “Sherman’s Way” (2008), “Ghosts of Girlfriends Past” (2009) and “Christian Mingle” (2014).
Hallmark Movies and the Queen of Christmas
Chabert began her relationship with Hallmark in 2010 opposite Ryan Merriman in “Elevator Girl,” followed by the 2012 holiday film “Matchmaker Santa.” Throughout the 2010s, she became one of Hallmark’s most dependable leading actresses, starring in romantic comedies, Christmas movies and mysteries including “A Royal Christmas,” “A Wish for Christmas,” “The Sweetest Christmas,” “Christmas in Rome,” “Winter in Vail” and “Christmas at Castle Hart.”
She also developed several successful franchises: the “All of My Heart” trilogy opposite Brennan Elliott (2015–2018); “Crossword Mysteries,” launched in 2019 with “A Puzzle to Die For,” in which she played Tess Harper, a crossword puzzle editor drawn into criminal investigations alongside a detective, again played by Elliott, running to five films; “The Wedding Veil” with Alison Sweeney and Autumn Reeser (2022, six films); and “Haul Out the Holly,” which generated the 2023 sequel “Haul Out the Holly: Lit Up.”
By December 2024, Chabert had starred in her 40th original Hallmark movie, “The Christmas Quest,” and her popularity earned her the nickname “Queen of Hallmark Christmas,” which she has embraced. By January 2026, she had completed 45 Hallmark movies, making her one of the network’s most prolific leading actresses.
Hallmark Contracts and Producing Earnings
Chabert’s relationship with Hallmark gradually expanded beyond acting: she became an executive producer on numerous films, including installments of “Crossword Mysteries,” “The Wedding Veil” and several Christmas productions. In 2022, she signed an exclusive multiyear agreement with Crown Media Family Networks, Hallmark’s parent company, to star in and executive produce original movies, and in January 2025 Hallmark announced an expanded partnership adding television development and consumer products.
The financial terms of her contracts have not been disclosed. However, a 2024 Business Insider report quoted talent agent Jennifer Goldhar estimating that a typical holiday movie lead could earn around $150,000 per film, while established stars such as Chabert could command substantially higher compensation. Her producing agreements and consumer products partnership provide additional income beyond her acting fees.
Recent Projects and Product Collection
In November 2024, Chabert expanded beyond Hallmark with the Netflix holiday romantic comedy “Hot Frosty,” playing Kathy Barrett, a widow who falls in love with a snowman brought to life through a magical scarf. The film co-starred Dustin Milligan, Craig Robinson, Joe Lo Truglio and Lauren Holly. Chabert continued in Hallmark productions throughout 2025, including “An Unexpected Valentine,” “Haul Out the Halloween” and “She’s Making a List,” and starred in the 2026 romantic adventure “Lost in Paradise,” filmed in Fiji with Ian Harding. In July 2026, she headlined the six-episode Hallmark+ drama “Paris Is Always a Good Idea” as Chelsea Martin, a nonprofit executive reconnecting with former romantic partners across Europe. She also filmed the 2026 Hallmark movie “Holiday Ever After: A Disney World Wish Come True,” opposite Travis Van Winkle — the first original Hallmark movie filmed at Walt Disney World.
In September 2024, Chabert launched “Celebrations with Lacey Chabert,” an unscripted series for Hallmark+, hosting and executive producing surprise parties for people making meaningful contributions to their communities; a second season premiered in September 2025. Personal Life and Real Estate
Chabert married businessman David Nehdar on December 22, 2013, in a private ceremony, and the couple have kept their relationship largely outside the public spotlight. Their daughter, Julia Mimi Bella Nehdar, was born on September 1, 2016. Chabert has said motherhood influences her career decisions, particularly her preference for short filming schedules. In November 2021, she announced the unexpected death of her older sister, Wendy, at age 46.
In November 2019, Chabert and her husband purchased a home in Tarzana, in Los Angeles’ San Fernando Valley, for approximately $1.9 million. The property features five bedrooms, a swimming pool and spa, and measures approximately 4,400 square feet. Before that, the couple owned a penthouse condominium in West Hollywood.
